MINISTRY TRIP TO BRAZIL MARCH 3 - 17, 2004
Friday, March 12, 2004 was our day off for tourism. Accompanied by Pastor Levir
and Marta and English speaking Elena, we went on a small boat across rough
waters to the "MEETING OF THE WATERS" where the BROWN water of the Amazon
converges with the BLACK water of Rio Negra. Fantastically the currents
flow side by side--brown & black water--at a different rate of speed.
We
went into the jungle! At the dock Indians had a trading post with their
self-made wares. We saw parrots, toucans, alligators, monkeys, and some
unknown to me animals. Trees were 300 feet tall. Beautiful vegetation!
God's world is wonderful! I witnessed to the Indians! They were Believers
and part of a church. Thank God for His wonderful Gospel and Missionaries!
Saw the "Hebides"-People living in houses built on huge logs in the river's
edge to survive the extreme Amazonian floods.
BACK IN MANOUS AT THE MUNICIPAL MERCADO ON THE RIVER FRONT
We looked
through shops. Witnessed to an Amazonian woman, Hutche, who said she was a
Non-believer, but I gave her a "Steps To Peace booklet.". She said, "I may
change my mind." I went through the booklet. She joyfully received Christ!
And said she would lead her husband to receive Christ! Praise the Lord.
At
night Kathy and I went alone to a revolving restaurant at the top of a
hotel, and met Danielle from Sao Paulo. She was smoking, said she was a third
generation Spiritist and could not receive Christ. I explained the power of
the gospel that Jesus has authority over all spirits and sin. Then, I
presented the plan of salvation and asked her to pray with us and receive
Christ. She said, "Desculpe mi um momento (Excuse me for a moment)." She
stepped away and put out her cigarette, came back and said, "OK!" She
repented, prayed, received Christ, and joyfully thanked us! "Praise God for
His transforming Gospel--Col. 1:14-18. BELEM CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS
After 30 hours from home in Belem, at
midnight we were met by our wonderful Missionary Paul Lambach, Sem. Pres.
Gilvan and wife, Jesus, VP Alesandro, Ex. Asst. Vanja & husband Joao. student
conference at 8AM Friday, Pastors and Wives Conf at 8AM Saturday. Kathy and
I both spoke, helped by our wonderful missionaries Clyde Schultz and Marla
Green.
Preached in three churches Sunday. Had a delicious fish lunch with
missionaries and Seminary President and Family on a beautiful Island across the
river. The power of God is at work in Belem (some 35 professions and many
other decisions). I went street witnessing with outstanding young Pastor
Antonio and 3 people made professions.
Kathy spoke in one church. We had
great fellowship with other missionaries, Carol Schultz, Elaine Lambach &
Families, Vanja at lunch in her home. God greatly blessed the seminars on
Gifts and Kathy's Womens Conference. The women (and the men) greatly responded to
Kathy's seminar on "Victory Over Depression." Some pastors attended her
seminar. They want her to come back for an expanded conference next year.
Kathy became ill with her stomach on Tuesday night. It lasted two days.
Would you believe? I substituted for her on Wednesday. We left Belem for Manous at
10:30 PM on March 10, 2004.
MANOUS
We were met at plane by Seminary President Marcelus and Missionary Mark
Bratcher. The Brazilians treat us with wonderful hospitality! Started my
Vida Total da Igreja Seminar Thursday night and continued through Monday
evening. The students and pastors were outstanding.
On Sunday I preached at three churches. Two were powerful, alive, and
packed with people. One was dead! Many decisions were made for Christ!
After church Pastor Levir insisted that we go to the beautiful Rio Negra
Beach.
It was raining furiously, but he still insisted. We went under
umbrellas to a small covered resturant where the sides were open. Blowing
rain wet us, but the soup and cupuacu dessert were good.
While we sat there
an artist approached and wanted to sketch our pictures. I said that we were
about to leave. He asked where I was from and what we were doing here. I
told him and then asked him if he was a Believer in Jesus Christ. He said, "No, but I would like for you to 'bless' me." I said, "Yes, I will be
pleased to do that!" Then, I shared the gospel and asked him to pray and
receive Christ. He prayed and I prayed for him. He was gloriously saved and
said that he knew Christ will bless him and give him power to live for Him.
We started home on Tuesday, March 16 and arrived on March 17. In Sao Paulo the
line to International Departure was a half-mile long. I told Kathy, "I am
not going to stand in that line unless I have to do so. We will not make it
through before our flight departs at 11:50 PM." We walked back up the line
near the front and asked if this was the correct line. A gracious man said, "Yes, but do you know that if you are past 60 years of age, you can go to
the front of the line and they will let you in?" Wow! The Lord delivered us
from the line! There are some advantages to getting old! We made it home
OK, but about an hour late. Wish all of you could have been with us.
TOTAL CHURCH LIFE STRATEGY IN BRAZIL
is making great advances. Brazilian
Baptist State Conventions and Associations continue to request seminars.
Pastors who have been in the seminars say that their churches are turning
around and growing. Pastor Odilon, First Baptist, Santos, is doing a great
job as Coordinator. Many want our three books and materials and seminars,
but are very poor and cannot afford them. So our ministry must be flexible
to allow them to pay only what they can afford. We are equipping leaders
here to lead TCL Seminars and some are doing it. They also want and need
People Sharing Jesus Seminars. OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERS FROM THE USA TO LEAD TCL, PSJ, AND INCREDIBLY
GIFTED SEMINARS ABOUND!
The requirements are COMMITMENT TO JESUS to master the material, be
able to speak through an interpreter, go at your own expense, have a heart
for soulwinning, be willing to work, be flexible, and love people. PRAY FOR THE SPREADING OF THE GOSPEL AROUND THE WORLD
Our grand
daughter, Blakely Robinson, will graduate from Baylor University on May 15 and will
go with me to Joao Pessoa, Mossoro, and Rio de Janeiro,Brazil on May 18.
Then Pastor Odilon and I are scheduled to go to Angola, Africa (a
Portuguese speaking country) on June 1-6. SEMARANG, INDONESIA will be our
destination July 18-27 with Bobby Morton and tentatively, Retired
Missionary, Carl Lee. DOORS KEEP OPENING
I just received word that Baptists in Portugal found out about our
plans to go to Angola. They have issued an invitation for Odilon and me to
come to Portugal as we return and train their pastors in Total Church Life
Strategy.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS--KATHY GOT WELL AND MADE IT FINE.
OUR LOVE AND PRAYERS,
DARRELL AND KATHY ROBINSON
